Muscat International Airport (formally Seeb International Airport) is the main aviation hub in Oman. The airport is located approximately 10km from the center of Muscat, Oman’s capital city.

The airport covers some 13 square miles and is today serviced by 2 runways. It is the largest and busiest airport in Oman.

Terminals at Muscat International Airport

Although there are 2 terminals at Muscat International Airport, only Terminal 1 is operational. Inaugurated in 2018, Terminal 1 is a new, state-of-the-art building which offers:

  • 82 immigration desks
  • 45 gates

All flights were moved from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 in 2018, there are plans to convert the old building into a low-cost carrier terminal.

The most convenient ways to make the journey are by taxi, bus, and car:

  • Taxi: $20- $40 depending on pick up/drop off point, around 15 minutes
  • Public bus: $2.60, journey time approximately 30 minutes
  • Shuttle bus: many hotels offer free transfer services directly to the accommodation
  • Car rental: around $50 a day, a number of car rental companies are stationed at Muscat Airport

Visas and Immigration at Muscat International Airport

All international visitors (other than GCC nationals) need a visa for Oman. Travelers who meet Oman’s eVisa requirements should request the document online prior to departure as the Visa on Arrival has been almost entirely phased out.

To apply for the Oman eVisa, foreign nationals are requested to fill in a form with some personal information and passport details and pay a fee using a credit or debit card.

On approval of the eVisa application, a reference number is sent via email. Passengers should proceed directly to one of the immigration desks upon arrival at Muscat International Airport where they will be asked to present their passport and eVisa reference number.

Normal processing times for the Oman eVisa are within 24 hours, however, as in some cases applications may take longer, it is advisable to request a visa at least a couple of days before the scheduled flight to Muscat.
