Local products add freshness to Mawaleh central market

SEEB: Since the start of summer, the Central Fruits and Vegetable Market in Mawaleh began to receive different varieties of home-grown fruits and vegetables from all governorates of the Sultanate.

The market is also inundated with large quantities of imported fruits and vegetables that enter the Sultanate through the air, land and seaports from many countries.

The Central Fruit and Vegetable Market, established by Muscat Municipality more than 20 years ago, is the only market in the Sultanate that receives thousands of tonnes of fruits and vegetables from inside and outside the Sultanate. It has administrative and services offices for Muscat Municipality, the Customs Department of Royal Oman Police and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.

Issa bin Khalfan al Riyami, Director of the Central Fruits and Vegetable Market, said the market’s administration has benefited from the period of work suspension. During that period, the market saw comprehensive improvements in all the market’s facilities.

Mahfoudh bin Saif al Akhzami, a vendor at the central market expressed his satisfaction over the developments carried out by the municipality by organising entry and exit of trucks and shoppers’ vehicles to the market and was reflected positively in the buying and selling activities. |
