Miss India crowned Miss Universe, Clémence Botino in the top 10
TELEVISION – Women from 80 countries competed this Sunday, December 12 to win the Miss Universe crown in the Israeli city of Eilat.
And the lucky winner is, for this 70th edition of the annual competition, Harnaaz Sandhu who was Miss India. Clémence Botino, who represented France, climbed into the top 10.
The 2021 competition was held for the first time in Israel, and calls for applicants not to participate in the event had increased. The South African Ministry of Sports, Culture and the Arts had urged its candidate not to go there, citing “the atrocities committed by Israel against the Palestinians”.
Palestinian organizations also called on the candidates not to participate. “We urge all participants to withdraw, to avoid any complicity with Israel’s apartheid regime and its violation of Palestinian human rights,” called the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel.
For this edition, it was also necessary to juggle the coronavirus. The French representative also almost could not participate after a positive result for Covid-19 when she landed there.
Contest participants had to be between the ages of 18 and 28, never married or have children. According to organizers’ estimates, the coronation ceremony was to be watched by 600 million viewers in 172 countries.
