Qatari Emir Calls for Broadening Ties
Qatar’s emir stressed the need for expansion of relations between Tehran and Doha, saying the two countries must use all their capacities along this line.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani made the remarks in a phone conversation with President Hassan Rouhani late on Tuesday, where both officials felicitated the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
He invited the Iranian president to visit Qatar, hoping that authorities from the two neighboring states could discuss issues of mutual and regional interest in person, according to President.ir.
Rouhani hailed close cooperation between Iran and Qatar, calling for maximum efforts to strengthen ties in all sectors, particularly economy and trade.
He also underlined the importance of resolving regional issues, such as the crisis in Yemen, through dialogue and negotiation, warning against the presence of the Zionist regime in the region.
“We believe the resolution of issues through peaceful methods, with a sense of responsibility and consideration of collective interests, is the only successful method to ensure security, peace and stability in the region,” he said, stressing that militarization will not help address regional problems.
Sheikh Tamim later welcomed the start of negotiations in Vienna, Austria, over Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal, hoping that all parties would help the revival of this multilateral agreement by returning to their commitments.
